Daniel Karrenberg is chief scientist at the RIPE NCC, the regional Internet registry for Europe and surrounding areas. He directs research, creation and piloting of new services as well as general strategy development. A computer scientist by training, Daniel likes to invent, design and implement Internet related systems, especially those collecting and processing data about the Internet itself. He also likes to occasionally inject physics, engineering and "networking style" into debates about Internet governance. He is a former member and chair of the board of the global Internet Society.
Paul van Dijk is Product Manager collaboration services at SURFnet. As a Product Manager he aims at bridging the gap between user needs and emerging technologies. With a background in medical research, Paul is particularly interested in eResearch collaboration tools and how to make these tools available for the scientific community.
Dr. Fons Kuijk is manager of the W3C Benelux Office since 2008. His personal interests in W3C activities are Emotion Markup, Accessibility and Graphics. He is also senior researcher at CWI in the research group Distributed Multimedia Languages and Infrastructures, specialized in the area of remote communication via animated avatars. He is former CTO of Epictoid and Chartoon software (both in Amsterdam), where he managed the development of avatar-based communication systems.
Leon Willems (1961) is directeur van Free Press Unlimited. Deze Nederlandse NGO wil betrouwbaar nieuws en informatie beschikbaar maken voor iedereen. Juist voor mensen in landen waar geen of beperkte persvrijheid is. Internetvrijheid is 'e'en van de speerpunten van Free Press Unlimited. Leon Willems is tevens lid van de stuurgroep van het Global Forum for Media Development en bestuurslid van het Keniaanse radiostation Ghetto radio.
Mark van Cuijk was the winner of the Joop Bautz Information Security Award 2011 for his master thesis 'Enforcing a fine-grained network policy in Android' at the The Kerckhoffs Institute. He has worked as a software engineer in various organisations, including his own company.
Arnd Marijnissen has been working in ISP-related IT for nearly 15 years now. First at 'the third ISP in Holland', now at 'the second'. Together with others he noticed a need for a place to harbour technology-oriented geeks in Amsterdam; a group of people finally got together and decided not to wait for other guys to start one.
Ot van Daalen is directeur van Bits of Freedom. Voorheen was hij advocaat bij advocatenkantoor De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. Hij was ook onderzoeker bij het Instituut voor Informatierecht. Bits of Freedom verdedigt communicatievrijheid en privacy in de informatiemaatschappij.
Qiang Tang is a Postdoc researcher at University of Twente, the Netherlands, leading research projects on secure healthcare services and privacy-preserving social networking. In particular, he is leading a project, titled Privacy-Preserving Communication Protocols for OSNs, which is sponsored by NLnet foundation. Qiang received his PhD degree from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2007. Between October 2006 and September 2007, he worked as a Podtdoc researcher at Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris, France.
In this talk, I will investigate the privacy issues in current online social networks, and outline some privacy-preserving protocols for users to match their profile attributes and establish secure channel for secure communications.
Francois Kooman works as Technical Product Manager for SURFnet on identity management and the SURFconext collaboration infrastructure. Francois obtained a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, specialization computer security, from the Radboud University Nijmegen (2009).
Unhosted aims at separating web applications from their data storage and makes it possible to "bring your own storage". The increased interest and use of cloud based applications by the research community makes having control over your data important. The concern for privacy and availability of data may make Unhosted a best of both worlds approach: use "cloud" applications while remaining in control of the data.
SURFnet is preparing for a proof of concept in 2012 which will aim at making it possible for students and researchers to try out Unhosted applications using existing federated identities provided by their institute.
