Our New Years event was be held on Thursday January 13th at the Science Park Amsterdam, hosted by the University of Amsterdam. Many local and international internet related organisations based in the Netherlands again joined up to organise a smashing New Year event for the local internet community of the Netherlands! Hopefully y ran into many old friends, acquaintances and met new interesting people working on areas of the internet that you'd not yet encountered. From grids and clouds to accessibility, from hackers to hosters, from civil rights to registries - everyone attended.

Programme

We started with a dinner buffet at 18.30h, so people could join us straight from work. We had the main space reserved for drinks, food and conversation only, so you were able to meet up with people you knew or liked to meet. There were some recruiters around to see if there were any new career challenges people should consider and get some information and nice giveaways from the various organisations. In the lecture hall we had a lot of interesting 'lightning talks', so as to get a quick update on what is happening or about to happen. Speakers included Alex Band (RIPE NCC), Carl Lens (Bendeburger), Rick van Rein (OpenFortress), Eric Velleman (Accessibility.nl) and Steven Pemberton (CWI). It was a very busy room, we started late because people were still enjoying their food and the lights went out at 22h - but the talks were great. And of course in the same lecture hall we had the traditional Chairman's debate at 20h, which as always was a real treat.
